Château Joanin Bécot is a notable wine estate located in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, which lies just east of Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux, France. The estate covers approximately 12.5 hectares of prime vineyard land. The soils, composed of clay-limestone and clay-sand, are ideal for cultivating Merlot, which is the predominant grape variety, along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc. James Suckling: 93-94/100 A tangy and juicy red with orange-peel, dark-cherry and currant aromas and flavors. Hints of terra-cotta and salt. Medium to full body with freshness and verve.
Jane Anson: 92/100 Vibrant plum colour, Merlot on clay profile, meaning round, soft and gourmet on the opening, giving a jolt of limestone chalk and pumice stone through the mid palate. Like this enormously, combines crunchy blue and red fruits with richer cocoa bean and liqourice. 25% new oak barrels for ageing, plus 25% one year oak, and the rest split between stainless steel vats and oak casks. Harvest September 25 to October 4.
Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate: 91-93/100 The 2023 Joanin Bécot is a solid performance this year, evoking aromas of violet, flowers, dark wild berries and iris, followed by a precise, tense, juicy and savory palate that is fleshier than the 2022 vintage, with velvety tannins and a tense, ethereal and calcareous finish. It's a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
Antonio Galloni - Vinous: 90-93/100 The 2023 Joanin-Bécot is one of the best wines I have tasted here. Vibrant and floral, with explosive fruit, Joanin-Bécot has it all. Dark and resonant notes of rose petal, spice and blood orange lift from the glass. There’s terrific density, class and purity. All the elements are so well balanced. Tasted two times.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Wine Independent: 88-90/100 A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Joanin Becot has a pH of 3.6 and is deep garnet-purple in color. It races out with ready-to-go scents of black cherries and juicy blackberries, with suggestions of tobacco and black pepper, plus touches of graphite and bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate is lively and lightly chewy, with just enough black berry flavors and a peppery finish.
