Margaux

57% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc.

The history of this very old vineyard begins in the 13th century. Château la Tour de Mons, formerly Tour de Marsac, took in 1623 the name of its owner Pierre de Mons. Château La Tour de Mons was later sold to the Clauzel Crunchet family and then bought back in 1995 by a group of institutional investors, Crédit Agricole and Caisse des Dépôts and Placements du Québec. Since, very important works of renovation and modernization were carried out in order to restore its past.

The vineyard is 48 hectares and the average age of the vineyard is 30 years. Also, the grape varieties are 55% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The estate has recently invested in a new winery, new cellars for storage of air-conditioned bottles, and acts in rational management of pesticides control.

Jane Anson: 90/100
Lovely precision with sappy tannins, and a sense of energy, underlined by clove spice, and just a touch of austerity with slim raspberry and blueberry fruits. This is located in the northern part of Margaux, more clay and limestone in the subsoil than its sibling estate Marquis d'Alesme. Harvest September 13 to October 7, 32hl/h yield, 20% new oak barrels for ageing.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - The Wine Independent: 88-90/100
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 La Tour de Mons strolls out of the glass with easy-going scents of cranberry sauce, black raspberries, and redcurrant preserves followed by hints of dried herbs, tree bark, and black olives. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing and invigorating, with red berries and herbal flavors supported by a racy backbone and lightly chewy tannins, finishing on a peppery note. The blend is 57% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc.
