Pomerol.
100% Merlot.
Château La Violette is a highly esteemed wine estate located in the prestigious Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France. This small yet exceptional vineyard spans just 1.8 hectares, making it one of the more boutique estates in the region. The vineyard's unique terroir, characterized by gravelly and clay soils, is ideal for cultivating Merlot, which is the primary grape variety used in Château La Violette's wines.
Full-bodied with a rich and chunky mid-palate, packed with fruit and chewy tannins. It’s very well framed and muscular, but not heavy. This should develop well with more time in barrel.
Antonio Galloni - Vinous: 93-96/100
The 2023 La Violette emerges from a tiny 1.68 hectare vineyard in the heart of Pomerol, 100% hand-destemmed and vinified in 100% French oak barrels from cooper Saury. Sumptuous and racy, the 2023 offers up a beguiling mix of crème de cassis, blueberry, menthol, licorice, spice and French oak. La Violette remains one of the most distinctive wines in Pomerol.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 La Violette slowly emerges from the glass with fragrant scents of dried roses, cinnamon stick, and cedar chest giving way to a core of black raspberries, juicy blackberries, and fresh plums with a waft of Sichuan pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely laden with fragrant black fruit layers supported by velvety tannins, finishing with a perfumed lift. This is 100% Merlot with a yield of 30hl/ha.
This is intense, rich character, grilled coffee, blueberry, a little heavy through the mid palate although has good depths and texture, Pomerol typicity, very much also on the estate signature. Close to the church plots in Pomerol, Vignobles Parent.
