Château Viranel is without doubt the finest producer in the tiny St-Chinian appellation in the Languedoc. It is located in the commune of Cessenon and covers 40 hectares on south-facing chalky/limestone terraces at St-Chinian, close to Bêziers on the Mediterranean coast.
The estate has been owned by the same family since 1551, and is currently run by two hardworking brothers, Arnaud and Nicolas. Syrah, Grenache and Carignan are planted on the estate, which produces red, white, and rosé wines.
In fact, the property has been in our family for nearly five centuries (since 1551), passed down from generation to generation. In the grounds of our property we’ve found the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa. Our house itself dates from 1911, and is decorated with a Bacchic fresco, showing that the family has always had a tradition of wine-making and festivity.
"This cuvée is a tribute to all the people who made VIRANEL what it is today because since 1551 it has always been transmitted by inheritance or alliance."
Notes and Reviews
Domain Tasting
The plot selection of this Syrah gives an extraordinary richness and aromatic purity. One plunges into a bold wine that delivers aromas of ripe fruit accompanied by delicate empyreumatic scrolls that give the Syrah fine notes of leather. The mouth is long, graceful and ends on a beautiful natural freshness revealing a tip of licorice which highlight the whole.
