This has a lot of length for a second wine, showing muscular and very fine tannins that are integrated and intense. Medium-bodied, with blackcurrant and crushed-stone aromas. It's so long and focused. 50% merlot, 48% cabernet sauvignon, 1% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.

The 2023 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is a bright, beautifully focused wine. Graphite, lavender, mocha, chocolate, incense, licorice and crushed rocks all run through this gorgeous, wonderfully inviting Saint-Estèphe. This is an especially serious Le Marquis, perhaps because of the inclusion of some Merlot lots that usually go into the Grand Vin. In this tasting, I find the aromatic presence and structure of the Cabernet highly expressive and very much in the foreground. What a gorgeous wine this is. Drink 2025-2038.

Dark fragrance to the nose. A little tight but this also has an ease about it with density to the grippy tannins that have a fruity, fleshy aspect to them as well as a clear wet stone, slate minerality that lingers on the tongue. A little firm on the finish, but structured and polished still with a juicy mouthwatering red cherry centre. Will be nice to taste it calms. Not so long but there’s nice character here nonetheless. 3.6pH. Ageing 17 months, 30% new. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Drink 2028 - 2037.

A blend of 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, Le Marquis de Calon Segur 2023 has a deep garnet-purple color. It bursts with bold, up-front scents of juicy plums and red cherries, leading to wafts of fallen leaves, dried roses, and wild thyme. Medium-bodied, the palate is plush and juicy, delivering an impressive amount of black and red berry flavors, finishing on a fruity note.
